Border Regions Peer Exchange on Solving Border Obstacles programme

New call for visitors launched to join peer exchanges on solutions to cross-border obstacles

The initiative will select 100 visitors from across Europe to participate in ten exchange visits focused on real-life solutions to challenges affecting border regions.

The European Commission’s Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) and Fundación CEER (FCEER), have opened a new call for applications.

It is part of the Border Regions Peer Exchange on Solving Border Obstacles programme. The initiative offers organisations working on cross-border the opportunity to learn directly from real experiences developed in European border regions.

100 visitors will be selected to participate in 10 peer-exchange visits taking place between November 2026 and January 2027. Each visit will be built around a real b-solutions case, a European initiative managed by the Association of European Border Regions (AEBR) that helps identify and address legal and administrative obstacles affecting cross-border cooperation. The visits will show how public authorities and other stakeholders have tackled these barriers and developed practical solutions that can inspire other border regions.

Learning from practical cross-border solutions

The programme promotes practical learning and knowledge transfer between territories facing shared cross-border challenges, such as improving healthcare coordination, overcoming barriers to cross-border employment and education, or strengthening cooperation in response to environmental incidents such as river pollution. Participants will meet the organisations behind the selected cases, discuss the solutions used, and explore how to adapt them to their own regional contexts.

The exchanges will cover topics such as:

• Healthcare
• Public services
• Transport
• Environmental management
• Tourism
• Social security
• Territorial governance

 Open to the European territorial cooperation community

The call is open to organisations involved in Interreg A programmes, including:

• Managing authorities
• Joint secretariats
• National, regional and local administrations
• Universities
• Research centres
• European Groupings of Territorial Cooperation (EGTCs)
• Euroregions
• Development agencies
• Chambers of commerce
• Other organisations active in cross-border cooperation

The programme will provide financial support of up to €750 (lump sum) to help cover travel and accommodation expenses for the highest-scoring applicants, up to 50 in total.

Applications close on 7 September 2026 at 17:00 CET. The selected visitors will be announced at the end of September.
